Of all the joints in your body, the shoulder is one of the most complex. The main shoulder joint is similar to a ball-and-socket joint and is surrounded by ligaments and tendons that stabilize the shoulder and allow for a wide range of motion. The rotator cuff allows the arm to rotate up and down, forward and backward. The bursa is a fluid-filled sac that lubricates the rotator cuff tendons, allowing for overhead movements.
